Well it's been almost 90 years since "As Time Goes By" was written. Also, there's "I'm Old Fashioned", "Somewhere That's Green", and others. So at what point does it stop being "I'm copping this song", and start being "This is a type of song I'm writing"? Exactly right before this one.
My wife and I have been watching Svengoolie for a long time now. Can't remember how and when we started, but to me the show and its host Rich Koz represent a cultural continuity that I sometimes miss, in our age of "cancel the show before season 3 because that's when everyone must be paid more". Dude deserves a song, so here.
lyrics
It seems like every year there’s, some kind of new frontier to boldly go through,
And every day you hear of, something you should have fear of. Let us show you.
But there are moments between the latest, greatest machine. I think you know what I mean: the times of
Something to hold to «Learning how to ride a bike, baseball when they’re not on strike»
Something to count on «Melodies to harmonize, chasing after fireflies»
And me and you, a garden view, and a million songs to write, and Svengoolie on Saturday night
When times are not as rosy, we still can watch Lugosi sagely skirt the sun.
Under a grainy moon, a little Chaney Jr. never hurt no one.
Between a bubbling vat and beaked skeleton rat, there stands the Man in the Hat to bring you
Something to hold to «Footie in a moccasin, stories where the good guys win»
Something to count on «Hiking in the chaparral, penny in a wishing well»
And me and you, the morning dew, and a million songs to write, and Svengoolie on Saturday night
And I realize the real world’s still out there, and oftentimes unkind
But let this unofficial chicken thrower help you find
Something to hold to «Beatles singing “Yesterday”, sunset over Hudson Bay»
Something to count on «Wrapping up inside a hug, cocoa in a Simpsons mug»
And me and you, the way we do, with a million songs to write, and Svengoolie on Saturday night
Something to hold to «Lalalalalala, lalalalalalala»
Something to count on «Lalalalalala, lalalalalalala»
And me and you, the songs we knew, and a million more to write, and Svengoolie on Saturday night
Something to hold to «Lalalalalala, lalalalalalala»
Something to count on «Lalalalalala, lalalalalalala»
Something to hold to «Lalalalalala, lalalalalalala»
Something to count on «Lalalalalala, lalalalalalala»
